A is for active ageing!

A is for Alcohol

Someone posted this a while back...

A is also for Asian Flush Syndrome

Like many ordinary people, I enjoyed the occasional wine or beer. But it seems that many Asians (specifically East Asians such as ethnic Chinese, Japanese and Koreans) have a condition known as "Asian Flush Syndrome". As explained by local scientist David Tan in the ST article below (Oct 31, 2012), this condition is genetic. His point is that whether Asians flush easily or not when imbibing alcohol, we are genetically disposed to keep one of the enzymes, acetaldehyde, far longer in our system than non-Asians, which is not good for our health. Anyway, have a read:

Z is for a good night's Zzzzzz

For the longest time, I go to sleep at night with the radio on -- BBC or Class 90.5. Now, a Canadian newspaper has reported that such a habit is a recommended technique for falling asleep! So does keeping your eyes (slightly) open, until you get drowsy, at least.

Three other tips proffered are: Visualise a pet cat (hmm, why not my dogs; maybe I should give that a try instead -- but wait! Brady poops all over and I have to clean up after. Okay, back to Garfield); write up a mental thank-you list; and be grateful ie find something positive to think about.

Here's the link to the Toronto Star story, "5 Mindfulness techniques to help you sleep better":
