The name game!

Okay, here are the answers to yesterday's mental a-writhe-metic quiz:

Go easy on yourself! Not everyone can think in a savant way.

From nowhere to now here

I came across this snack cafe with its unusual name:

After making some purchases, I asked the owner why she named it "Nowhere".

She explained that the shop had indeed come from nowhere as she was new to the area. But now that it had become a more familiar fixture, the name should be pronounced as "now here"! Clever.

And, of course, I can't resist inserting here the Beatles' song Nowhere Man:

A love affair with ladybirds

How much do you know about ladybirds? As a primary schoolkid, I had caught my share of these voraciously carnivorous insects, which are very useful, in terms of keeping pest insects in check. But what an ironically demure name for a most unladylike creature.

They were once plentiful. But, now, it seems, their numbers are scarcer. So there is a project to get people interested in these small critters and to help keep their numbers from dwindling:

The guy in charge of the project, Sean Yap, wrote a nice piece in NParks' newsletter on how he got hooked on bugs:

Trivia question: What was the nickname of the wife of the 36th US President, Lyndon Baines "LBJ" Johnson?

All Itchy? Take the train, but watch out for the Bra Thug

Finally, there are Singaporeans who like to jumble up words, and seem to have plenty of time to indulge in this pursuit. Here's one instance: jumbling up MRT train station names to create weird makeovers!...

Haha, Bony Fart! Both Gay Duh! etc etc.

Apparently, all the stations have been renamed by these deranged word punsters...

Note: Bony Fart is Bayfront station and Both Gay Duh is Dhoby Ghaut station. If you need help figuring out the others, here's Transitlink's map:
