I learnt about the dragonfly's amazing prowess from this New York Times story in ST (April 3):
It got me thinking. Dragonflies are plentiful in Singapore (I recently found lots of them in the Labrador Park area). So, why -- given the dragonfly's "punching above its weight" qualities and hardy,survivalist traits -- wasn't it chosen as our national symbol? Instead, we are stuck with this mythical half-this-half-that frankenmonster:
