From jolly good ads to a jolly good time in the South China Sea...

I love it when an ad has that cheeky touch, and done classily. So, the Royals -- William and Kate -- are in Singapore; and naturally British Airways wants to welcome them to the Little Red Dot while also mining the Singaporean sense of humour...

Brilliant!... a packet of our beloved teh tarik. It is a creative idea. How do I explain "teh tarik" (literally: tea that has been pulled)? Here's a pic:

But I would have used a more "iconic" hawker fare, the tau huay chwee (soya bean drink). Anyone who tries to rubbish this food item, or the tau huay (soya beancurd dessert) will be at the receiving end of Singaporean foodies' collective ire, as the organisers of the recent rather snooty "Diner en Blanc" event found out.

I seem to have this fascination with sharks. Naturally, I found this personal accident insurance ad below funny and appropriate. Look carefully at the cat's expression ("That'll be her just dessert for having shark's fin soup at lunch!")...

Those two ads above are the classy ones. I found this one below puzzling:

Huh... 101 ways of conception? I only know of two, possibly three: (a) natural conception, including by surrogacy; (b) assisted conception, in all its variations such as invitro fertilisation and egg/embryo donation; and (c) conception after sex with an alien but no such cases have been known to exist!

As for this next ad below...

It's the face of a young woman. So what's the message all about?

Meanwhile, many studies show merely an associated link between two phenomena, and it is very hard to show a causal link between two phenomena. It has been shown, however, that smoking carries a very high risk of getting lung cancer. I am thus all for the  "scary" ads depicted in this news story below:

High jinx on the high seas

Finally, you would surely have been reading in the papers and watching the news about all that escalating tension in the South China Sea over disputed islands and reefs merely sticking out above the water that they can't be seen at high tide! Yet some analysts fear the countries in dispute might start a war.

Well, the good news -- apparently from this cutting below -- is that those tensed-up diplomats, after trading insults with each other and threatening dire consequences, get together to have a ripping let-your-hair-down party. Here's the proof:

That's what it means, right??... a "Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea".
