The alphabet Version 2.0, that dangling participle again, and is Google trying to oust governments?

The English alphabet, Version 2.0

(Thanks, Liane, for sending me this one.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stop dangling that participle!

I have not been going on my anti-dangling participle patrol for some time, but this one in today's ST (Sept 20) is so glaring...

No, Mr Cedric Foo is a man, not a city! The sentence should have been recast as: "I think that such behaviour gives Singapore, a city known for its fairness and honesty, a bad name."

[Any Manhattanites reading that quote above? Do excuse us, our "thought leaders" just love to make comparisons. To invert Vidal Sassoon's tagline, "If they look bad, we look good".]

---------------------------------------------------------------

What does "government removal request" mean?

I'm using this insing.com story illustration below to highlight how a garbled string of words can in fact mean something else!...
