All on a Saturday...

If you had missed this New York Times article, published in today's ST Saturday (March 23), you should read it. The writer, Bruce Feiler, makes his points -- backed by talking to the experts -- simply and plainly:

I found an electronic copy in sina.com:

Politics, we are always reminded (at least here in Singapore), is a serious matter. Across the Causeway, with election fever building up to a pitch, some cooling-off respite comes by way of "fun and games, Malaysia Boleh-style"...

Hmm, I wonderful how the Singapore versions will be like?

Monopoly: Singapore, Home or Hotel
Instead of a "Get out of jail" card, a citizen wannabe may hope to secure a 'Get out of NS" card while a "born and bred" citizen may want a "All road traffic demerit points wiped out" card.

Singapore History Lessons (here's how to score in this game)
Anything before 1965 is ancient history
Anything after 1965 is modern history

Knuckle-duster
(Sorry, you figure out the storyline and game protocol for this one yourself)

On the world stage, start preparing for Pax Sinomerica (ie, hopefully, it won't be just Pax Sinica):

One can already sense the palpable self-confidence displayed by the newly minted Chinese leaders...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, back to less weighty stuff. Believe it or not, this Renault car ad claims a particular model can make the trip all the way to Thailand without a fuel stop. Question: Will the fuel needle hit "E" just at the Thai border or can the vehicle go all the way to Bangkok, braving the notorious traffic jams to boot?

The ad above did not say that the car uses a diesel engine, so one must assume it has a petrol engine. But, with diesel cars enjoying a newfound popularity here, anyone with such a vehicle contemplating a Malaysian driving holiday may want to take note of this advisory below:

One more "trucks or treats" ad here, to add to my earlier series...

I can understand what are display sets of mattress beddings. But obsolete models? How do mattresses or beds get obsolete? Yes, they can be replaced by newer models -- ie, a particular range or certain models are discontinued -- but that does not mean they become obsolete!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't understand why movie distributors persist in this practice (it has happened before):

Jude Law, checked. Catherine Zeta-Jones, checked. But why are Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara given a gender mix-up? What's that you say? Oh, they took the pill? Okay.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, on the subject of pills, I went to see the doctor for a persisting cough. Apart from the medication I received, I got some lozenges too...

Hmm, "suck one three times a day". Huh? One lozenge? Three times (same lozenge)? No, I haven't done that, because I haven't figured out how!
